PiBoIdMo. Day 6.

PiBoIdMo. Day 6.

I wasn’t doing anything particularly interesting when I came up with my idea today. But I have come up with an idea and added it to my list, so I can cross off day 6 and start the cogs whirring for a Day 7 Idea.

6 down. 24 to go.

"Tomato Plants"And now for something unrelated to picture book writing—look, look what I found on my tomato bushes! (You won’t be sufficiently impressed unless you are familiar with my history of tomato growing. *Be very impressed*)

These are growing in our newly constructed kitchen garden, still something of a work-in-progess. I will be posting more photos soon so you can see the fantabulous corn, and the rather sorry-looking moth-eaten bok choy.

White butterfly heaven.

PiBoIdMo. Day 5.

PiBoIdMo. Day 5.

Today I am tired and grumpy. And you wouldn’t think tired and grumpy would leave one open to inspiration, but as I was driving one of my children to a music class today, I came up with Idea Number Five. And it isn’t about someone being tired and grumpy.

I am feeling quite envious of Kat Apel right now. Kat let slip that she came up with 100 picture book ideas on Day 1 of PiBoIdMo, so she has ideas in reserve. (She didn’t really say 100, it was more like 8.)

5 down. 25 to go. And I must check in on some fellow PiBoIdMo-ers to see how they are going. If you have 100 ideas in reserve, it’s probably best if you say something vague like ‘oh, it’s going OK I guess’. Otherwise I will surely strike you from my Christmas card list. (Told you I was tired and grumpy.)

PiBoIdMo. Day 4.

Today I met up with some lovely Perth Mum bloggers at Botanical Cafe in Kings Park (thanks to Christie for organising it). We all brought a child or two along with us, and today’s picture book idea came to me while I was watching the kids play and chat—Christie’s pink playdough was popular, as were the stickers and stamps in brown paper bags.

The weather was beautiful, so Miss 4 and I had a play at Synergy Playground afterwards. A good day!

4 down. 26 to go.

PiBoIdMo Day 3

PiBoIdMo. Day 3.

Thankfully, I wasn’t lying awake at 5.45am thinking about the school fete. Today I slept solidly right up until the alarm (possibly because I stayed up too late reading Alice-Miranda at School).

My picture book idea for today arrived while dropping the kids up at school.

And it’s supposed to get to 36 degrees in Perth today. (That’s unrelated to inspiration striking—at least, I think so—but just thought I’d mention it.)

3 down. 27 to go.

Where inspiration struck today:

Lying in bed at 5.45am, thinking about the school fete. (As one does at 5.45am)

PiBoIdMo. Day 1.

I’m not doing NaNoWriMo this year but I have signed up for PiBoIdMo*—Picture Book Idea Month. Everyone taking part agrees to come up with a picture book idea for every day in November. That’s 30 ideas for picture books. *looks optimistic*

If you’d like to take part, you can find out more over at Tara Lazar’s blog. And here’s the cool PiBoIdMo badge, to show I’m officially thinking:

I’m not sharing what my ideas are, assuming I can dredge up 30 good ones. I don’t like sharing too soon before a story is fleshed out—but if I come up with an idea while I’m doing something interesting, then perhaps I will share about what I was doing when inspiration struck. 🙂

So, to kick start my 30 ideas, I got my first idea when I was listening to a group of 8 year olds this morning. They were chatting about possible titles for stories they were writing and my brain went off on a tangent. Now … only 29 to go.

Are you in?

*Thank you for not making it NaPiBoIdMo. I can sign on without feeling like an interloper.
